Light year (book series)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The light year was a seven-part fantasy - book series of the 1980s and '90s in the GDR from the publisher The New Berlin were (Band 1 to 6 "... as the content of the most successful and because of their design and equipping and most SF books in the DDR ”) or from 1999 (Volume 7 as a publication of the Freundeskreis SF Leipzig eV).

Emergence

In this series, known as the “Fantastic Almanac”, fantastic stories, short stories, essays , poems, picture stories, articles and bibliographies with partly colored illustrations were published on up to 280 pages. Additional editions are not known. The volumes cost between 16.80 and 19.80  marks or German marks .

Volume 1 was the only paperback edition of this series of books and was available with a colored dust jacket and elements of space travel, images of Copernicus and Albert Einstein , a satellite and much more. From volume 2, the volumes were available with hardcover and also with a colored protective cover . All volumes are designed in landscape format (approx. 21 × 19.5 cm²), the texts are sometimes set in very large letters, sometimes in the usual size. Volumes 1 and 3 to 6 contained up to three partially one-page picture stories ( comics ). The graphic designer on the cover of Volume 7 received the Kurd-Laßwitz Prize in 2000.

The Freundeskreis Science Fiction Leipzig eV (FKSFL for short) continued the series with publisher Erik Simon after the fall of the Berlin Wall, some texts that had already been prepared could not be published because the authors (mostly from former socialist countries) could no longer be contacted. In 1990, the publisher rejected the planned publication. Volume 7 received the Kurd-Laßwitz-Preis twice in 2000, once for the best graphic on SF by Mario Franke and once as a special award for the courage and risk of publishing such a work, which Erik Simon and the FKSFL have proven.
