Lienz is a village in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley , which lies between Rüthi and Sennwald .
geography
The village of Lienz, which lies at the foot of the Hohe Kasten , is an exclave of the St. Gallen municipality of Altstätten and has an area of 8.3 km². From the Oberbüchel district, which lies in the border triangle between Austria , Liechtenstein and Switzerland , a bridge leads next to the customs house over the Rhine into Bangs in Vorarlberg , which is part of the Feldkirch municipality . To the northeast of this border crossing, the Werdenberg inland canal flows into the Rhine and forms the last interruption of the Rhine dam on the Swiss side as far as Lake Constance .
The plain between the city Lienz and the Rhine is on the SBB -line St. Margrethen - Buchs crosses. The Rheintaler inland canal , on which one of the three small power plants of the Rheintaler inland canal works , runs practically parallel . The village of Lienz is connected to public transport with a bus stop served by the RTB Rheintal Bus .

The districts of Plona and Oberbüchel belong to the local community of Lienz. Lienz had a total of 383 inhabitants in 2000 and 455 on December 31, 2011. It has its own school community with a school house, which is attended by almost 50 children from the 1st kindergarten to the 6th grade. The upper school students are taught in the upper school center in Oberriet. The Herz-Jesu-Kirche in the village of Lienz serves as a place of worship for the Catholic faithful. These are looked after by the Blattenberg pastoral care unit from Rüthi . In the hamlet of Plona, above Rüthi, there is the chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua . The Evangelical Reformed Christians are affiliated with the Sennwald parish.
history
In the Ancien Régime, the highest jurisdiction over the Lienz belonged to the Sax-Forstegg rule , while the lower courts were owned by the town of Altstätten .
