Johann Balthasar Liesch von Hornau

Johann Balthasar Liesch von Hornau (born August 4, 1592 in Berching , Upper Palatinate ; † September 13, 1661 in Neisse ) was auxiliary bishop in Breslau from 1625 to 1661 and diocese administrator there from 1635 to 1656 .

Life

His parents were Johann Jakob von und zu Hornau, imperial captain and archducal chief bailiff of the Bailiwick of Horb as well as the princely Eichstätt bailiff of Berching, and Klara, née. Jonas von Buech.

Liesch von Hornau attended the Jesuit grammar school in Dillingen and then studied theology as an alumne at the Collegium Germanicum in Rome, where he was ordained a priest on September 23, 1619 . 1619 doctorate he in Perugia for Dr. theol. In the same year he was canon in Landshut and in 1624 canon and canon of the Breslauer Kreuzstifts .

On November 27, 1625, Liesch von Hornau was appointed auxiliary bishop in Breslau and titular bishop of Nicopolis in Armenia by Pope Urban VIII . The episcopal ordination took place on March 25, 1626.

Since the incumbent Bishop Karl Ferdinand Wasa only rarely stayed in Breslau, Liesch von Hornau was entrusted with important diocesan tasks, such as the re-Catholicization of the Silesian cities. Because of the Thirty Years' War , the Wroclaw Cathedral Chapter had to flee the city in 1632. After returning in 1635 Timothy was of Hornau Breslauer dean and diocesan administrator. It resided in Neisse, where in 1653 he held a diocesan synod .

Liesch von Hornau died after a long illness on September 13, 1661 in Neisse and was buried in the local St. Jacob's Church .
