Karl Ferdinand Wasa ( Polish Karol Ferdynand Waza ; born October 13, 1613 in Warsaw ; † May 9, 1655 in Wyszków ) was a Polish prince from the Wasa dynasty , Bishop of Płock , Duke of Opole and Ratibor and as Prince-Bishop of Wroclaw , in real union with the Principality of Neisse , Prince of Neisse.

Life

His parents were King Sigismund III. Wasa and Constanze from Austria . The Polish kings Władysław IV. Wasa , Johann II. Casimir and Cardinal Johann Albert Wasa were his brothers.

Although Karl Ferdinand had not received any higher orders, in 1624 he became a canon at the Breslau Cathedral and at the same time coadjutor of his uncle, the Breslau bishop Karl of Austria . After his death in late 1624, he was elected Bishop of Breslau on May 3, 1625 . Since he had only visited Breslau a few times, the diocese was administered by Auxiliary Bishop Johann Balthasar Liesch von Hornau .

In addition to his Breslau bishopric, he was elected Bishop of Płock in 1640 ; he was also the administrator of the Cistercian abbey of Mogila .

From 1651 he was also Duke of the Duchies of Opole and Ratibor , which were in pledge possession of the Wasa.

After his death he was buried in the Jesuit Church in Warsaw . A cenotaph was erected for him in the Kraków Cathedral .
