Liga Mayor 1941/42

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1941/42 season of the Liga Mayor was the penultimate season of the football league, originally under the name Primera Fuerza , before the introduction of professional football in Mexico . For the first time after the 1933/34 season, when three teams had finished the round- robin tournament with equal points at the top of the table, "stoppage time" was required again. Because the goal difference was not used as a decision criterion, Real Club España and Club Atlante had to play a playoff. This took place one week after the regular last encounter between Asturias and Moctezuma (3: 8) on May 10, 1942 and was won by the Españistas 5: 4. "Matchwinner" was the Cuban Juan Tuñas , who scored three goals for España.
