Liga Mayor del Distrito Federal 1939/40

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1939/40 season was the ninth and last season of the Liga Mayor del Distrito Federal , which had this name since 1931. Because teams from all parts of the country could participate in the league again from the following season (as was customary until 1920) and were no longer limited to clubs from the capital, the league was henceforth only a league major designated.

mode

During this season, the teams met three times each - as they did before in the 1934/35 season . Only teams that had their own stadium had real home games. These were the later champions España ( Parque España de la Verónica ) and the runner-up Necaxa ( Parque Necaxa ) throughout the season, as well as last year's champion Asturias after the reconstruction of Parque Asturias , which had burned down in the previous season . However, the granted home right could not always actually be exercised in one's own stadium, as the respective venue was determined by a decision of the league. So it could well come to a "home game" in a foreign and an "away game" in their own stadium.

1 The match between Club Ameríca and Club Asturias that took place on Christmas Eve 1939 was canceled by the league and was therefore not included in the evaluation, so that the game is not included in the official final table. The reason for this was that the mayor of Mexico City who was present at the game at half time, when Club Asturias was still 3-1 ahead, demanded the suspension of their player José Soto and thus exerted undue influence on the referee. Outnumbered, the Asturianos lost the game 3: 4.
