Lilium puerense is a species from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ) in the trumpet lily section . However, the status of the species is controversial as it isvery similar to Lilium sulphureum . So it could also be a variety of this kind.

description

Lilium puerense reaches a height of 100 cm to 150 cm. The onions are large, oval and reach a diameter of about 5.8 cm to 7.5 cm, they are between 6 cm and 7 cm high, they are covered with purple scales. The stem is papillary on the surface . The upright leaves are narrow and linear to lanceolate, between 5.5 cm and 7.5 cm long and between 1.6 and 3.5 cm wide. They are distributed around the stem and, like Lilium sargentiae, form axillary bulbs in the leaf axils. Unlike Lilium sulphureum , the leaf margins are papillary, which is an important distinguishing criterion.

The plant flowers from July to September with inflorescences with 1 to 6 trumpet-shaped flowers that are strongly scented. The inflorescence is segmented and 14.8 cm to 19 cm long. The hermaphrodite flowers are threefold. The six lanceolate petals of the same shape are bent back. The bracts are oval and between 4 cm and 5 cm long and 1.6 cm to 2.3 cm wide. They have a single 4 cm to 5 cm long flower stalk in the middle . The basic color of the flowers is ivory white, which changes to golden yellow at the base, the outside of the flower is tinged with pink. Each flower contains three carpels and six stamens. The anthers are pale yellow and the pollen are brown and the filaments are yellowish green. The stylus is 10 cm to 11.5 cm long and white, the stigma of the scar is bold and has a diameter of 6 mm to 8 mm. The most important distinguishing feature from Lilium sulphureum is the green color of the ovary , which is purple in Lilium sulphureum . The seeds mature in 5 cm to 6.5 cm long, 7 mm to 10 mm 6-furrowed seed pods.

The seeds of Lilium puerense germinate immediately and epigeously , but reproduction also takes place via the axillary bulbs.

distribution

Lilium puerense grows on grassy slopes, in open forests, but also on roadsides on calcareous soils at altitudes from 1200 to 1800 m above sea level.

The species was discovered and first described in the southeast of Yunnan Province in the People's Republic of China , it appears to be endemic there. The holotype can be found in the administrative area of the urban district-free city of Pu'er .

use

The species was first described in 1991 and has not yet been cultivated. However, it seems that some plants that are cultivated in gardens as Lilium sulphureum are actually Lilium puerense .
