The yellow flax or yellow flax ( Linum flavum ) is a species from the genus flax ( Linum ).
description
The yellow flax is an upright and slightly woody perennial species and reaches a height of 20 to 60 cm. On its stem alternate (upper sometimes opposite) dark to blue-green, narrowly lanceolate leaves below and broadly lanceolate to elongated leaves in the middle and above, which are up to 25 millimeters long and more or less half-stem encompassing. The up to 15 bright yellow flowers are in umbels, the petals are 15 to 20 millimeters, the eilanzettlichen sepals 6 to 9 millimeters long. The plant is bare, the stem has narrow winged edges, at least upwards.
The flowering period extends from June to July, sometimes until September.
The chromosome number of the species is 2n = 30.
distribution
It prefers calcareous and low-nitrogen , warm locations in sunny to partially shaded locations, e.g. B. Meager meadows , bushes and forest edges and dry pine forests . It is a character species of the Cirsio-Brachypodion association, but also occurs in societies of the Mesobromion or Geranion sanguinei associations. The species is widespread in Central and Southeastern Europe up to Central Russia in the colline to submontane altitude range.
The occurrences in Germany on the Swabian Alb and in the Illertal form the western edge of the area of the species, are actually isolated relics and highly endangered. Only a few hundred plants still exist here.
In Austria the species occurs in the federal states of Burgenland , Vienna , Lower Austria , Styria and Carinthia . It is scattered or rarely represented in the Pannonian region , but very rarely in the rest of Austria. It is considered to be endangered to endangered. In Styria, north of Graz near Deutschfeistritz, there is a nature reserve with a mass occurrence of yellow flax on the Schartnerkogel ( NSG 26 c ).
