Lionel Scheffer

Lionel Scheffer OMI (born February 24, 1903 in Sainte-Marguerite-du-Lac-Masson , Québec , † October 3, 1966 ) was a Canadian religious and Roman Catholic Vicar Apostolic of Labrador .

Life

Lionel Scheffer joined the Congregation of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in and received on 14 June 1931, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On March 14, 1946, Pope Pius XII appointed him . the titular of Isba and for the first Vicar Apostolic of Labrador. The Archbishop of Ottawa , Alexandre Vachon , donated him episcopal ordination on April 28 of the same year ; Co - consecrators were the Vicar Apostolic of Keewatin , Martin Joseph-Honoré LaJeunesse OMI, and the Bishop of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence , Napoléon-Alexandre Labrie CIM . Scheffer participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .

The city of Schefferville was named after him.
