Lisa Kuntze

Lisa Kuntze (born December 16, 1909 in Dresden as Elisabeth Hasait;February 5, 2001 in Otjiwarongo , Namibia ) was a German-Namibian writer .

Origin and family

Lisa Kuntze was born in Dresden as the daughter of the technical director of the Saxon State Opera in Dresden , Max Hasait (1874–1951).

Kuntze was married to the German-Namibian farmer Eberhard Kuntze (1917–1995). The Namibian politician Michaela Hübschle (* 1950) is Kuntze's daughter.

Live and act

After finishing school, Kuntze learned the book trade . In 1931 she went to England as an au pair and to France in 1934. There she learned the English and French languages ​​and after her return to Germany found a job with a Berlin radio station. In Berlin she met the American writer Thomas Wolfe (1900–1938). The letters and postcards she wrote to him have survived. There she met her husband Eberhard Kuntze and moved with him in 1949 to his parents' farm Hillenhof in what was then South West Africa . She worked as a newspaper correspondent and author , wrote texts for the German-language channel of the South West African Broadcasting Corporation (SWABC) and held numerous honorary posts . She spent her old age in an old people's home in Otjiwarongo and died at the age of 91 before her autobiography was published .
