Reinhard Keding

Reinhard Keding (born September 5, 1948 in Salzhausen ) is a German clergyman and former bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (DELK) .

Life

Keding is the son of a pastor . He was born in Salzhausen in the Harburg district, grew up on the Elbe island of Krautsand , in Mechtshausen and Moisburg . He attended school in Buxtehude until 1967 . On his second educational path , he studied theology at the Hermannsburg Missionary Seminar . He passed his first exam in 1974. In the same year he married the doctor Frauke Gremels. There are five children from the marriage. From 1975 to 1976 he was vicar at the Evangelical Lutheran St. George Church in Toronto (Canada). After the end of the vicariate he returned to Hermannsburg .

In 1977 he went to South Africa and worked as a pastor in Dundee and Elandskraal . In 1982 he became a school pastor at the German School Hermannsburg in Hermannsburg . Three of his children were born in South Africa. After his return to Germany he headed the education department of the Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Lower Saxony .

In 1993 he was elected bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (DELK). In this office he promoted a merger of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia and his own church.

In 2000 his wife Frauke died.

Together with his colleague Zephania Kameeta from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia and the legal scholar Manfred Hinz , who comes from Bremen and teaches in Namibia , Keding proposed in 2004 the establishment of a reconciliation commission made up of Germans and Namibians in order to improve the relationship between Namibia and Germany 100 years after the beginning of the suppression of the Herero and Nama uprising against German colonial rule in what was then German South West Africa . In 2005 Keding returned to Germany and signed a second marriage. His successor as bishop was Erich Hertel .

From September 1, 2005 to December 31, 2014, Keding was pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation in Bad Laer and Glandorf ( Osnabrück district ), which includes the Trinity Church in Bad Laer and the Kripplein Christi Church in Glandorf.
