Ensembles

Ensemble of the Ensdorf Monastery with the main street

Klosterkirche-ensdorf.jpg

The ensemble includes the complex of the former Benedictine monastery and the adjacent, long and straight Ensdorfer Hauptstraße.

When the Ensdorf monastery was founded in 1121, presumably by Count Palatine Otto von Wittelsbach , the Vilstal was already the connecting route between Amberg and Regensburg, both by land and by water. The direction and width of the main street had been predetermined since the late Gothic period at the latest, when the monastery, which had flourished through participation in the Chancellor reform, had the official house and the monastery judge's house built there. Later inns and other buildings were added; the cemetery with the parish church, which was demolished in 1805, also referred to the direction of the road. After the gradual decline in construction as a result of the monastery being closed during the Reformation, the rebuilt abbey had to start renovating its buildings in 1695.

The farmyard in front of the convent building to the west was given beveled corners, as otherwise it would have blocked the way of the existing main road. Today's picture shows a street on the eaves side, some of which were built in the 17th and 18th centuries. and 19th century. The outer monastery courtyard wing in baroque form is one of the defining buildings alongside the former monastery judge's house.

The former office building is unfortunately no longer preserved. In the last few years there have also been conversions and new buildings that disrupt the appearance of the main street.

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
