List of architectural monuments in Vilseck
The monuments of the Upper Palatinate town of Vilseck are compiled on this page . This table is a partial list of the list of architectural monuments in Bavaria . The basis is the Bavarian Monument List , which was first drawn up on the basis of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act of October 1, 1973 and has since been managed by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation . The following information does not replace the legally binding information from the monument protection authority.
Ensembles
Ensemble old town Vilseck
The city of Vilseck is determined by two structural exponents, which face each other like poles, the castle in the east and the parish church of St. Giles in the southwest. The core city, which was reinforced with a wall from 1331, spreads between the two, to which suburbs were added to the southeast and west in the late Middle Ages.
The castle was the center of power for the Upper Palatinate possessions of the Bamberg monastery ; it was built here because Vilseck is centrally located and one of the first Upper Palatinate villages in Bamberg, which had belonged to the bishopric since 1008. It is uncertain whether the oldest settlement was by the church. In any case, after the castle was built, the urban structure was laid out between it and the church area, probably in the early 14th century.
The city floor plan is of clear simplicity through the inscription of a T-shaped street structure. A funnel-shaped market square extends from the western Obertor to a transverse axis that cuts through the entire city, Herrengasse and Breite Gasse; from here the narrow Schlossgasse leads to the castle, and the Froschau-Straße to the Untertor and the suburb of Froschau.
The parish church standing in the extreme southwest corner of the city wall is accessed through the two streets parallel to the wall, Klostergasse and Kirchgasse, on which the baroque portal elevation of the church is oriented. In the axis continuation of the market square, the suburb was added to the west, which received its clear boundary on the slope in front of the stream. The south-eastern suburb on the Froschau was grouped around a triangular Angerplatz and the development was then continued in a southerly direction as required into the meadow and pond area.
The development both in the core city and in the suburbs is predominantly two-storey and eaves side. Remains of the city fortifications can be seen, the surrounding ponds have been abandoned; the urban center of the town hall, which stands at the junction of Marktplatz and Herrengasse, was demolished. The modern development of the moat area regrettably took place without any meaning or arrangement on an old town structure that is impressive to this day.

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
