The monuments of the Upper Palatinate town of Schnaittenbach are compiled on this page . This table is a partial list of the list of architectural monuments in Bavaria . The basis is the Bavarian Monument List , which was first drawn up on the basis of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act of October 1, 1973 and has since been managed by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation . Schnaittenbach, which belonged to Triesching in the 12th and 13th centuries, was first mentioned in a document in 1368 as "markt ze Snaytenbach".

The ground plan of the former market town, which was elevated to the status of town on October 23, 1954, is strikingly regular: the main street is accompanied by two parallel streets, the Blumenstrasse and the Bachgasse, which are connected to the main axis by cross streets. Towards the streets there are mostly two-story rows of eaves breeches; only in the side streets are single-story small houses occasionally preserved. The western, northern and southern outskirts are formed by rows of barns.

The earlier market fortifications, which only survived in small remnants, consisted of a curtain wall that joined the large pond in the north. Three gates originally sealed off the market, the Obere or Hirschauer Tor in the west, the Lower Gate in the east and the Lohtor in the south. A major fire that destroyed 79 houses and 49 barns of 96 properties in 1817 left little of the building stock from the time before 1800. The two-storey community house at Blumenstrasse 6, marked on the archway with the year 1797, is likely to be the oldest residential building in the town.

The current appearance of the houses with steeply sloping, closed pitched roofs with predominantly natural red beaver tail cover goes back to the planned reconstruction after 1817, whereby the building lines in Hauptstrasse and Blumenstrasse have probably been straightened. The flood disaster caused by a dam breach in 1830 probably caused only minor damage to the existing buildings on the market.

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
