Ensemble Altstadt Zeil am Main
The town ( location ), first mentioned in 1383, located at the foot of the Haßberge on the south-facing slope of the Main river above the valley of the Altach Valley, has an approximately triangular ground plan with largely regular street structure. As the main axis, the sloping road Würzburg - Bamberg runs through the city from the north-west along Oberen Torstrasse to the south on the main road. The market square rising to the north opens up in the center . Behind the town hall, which is in a dominant position here, the church square connects with the parish church , which forms the core of the settlement. The former hunting lodge of the bishops of Bamberg (Obere Torstrasse 9) on the north-western edge of the city, on the city wall , next to it the Upper City Tower and the parish church, which is particularly dominant due to its location, determine the cityscape alongside the numerous half-timbered buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. Century In the west of the 19th century, artificially irrigated kitchen gardens were created in front of the city wall. Boundary: Oberes Tor- Kaulberg - An der Mauer to Altach - Altach to Hauptstrasse - city wall on the southwest side (Stadtmauerweg) to Obere Tor Strasse 9. File number: E-6-74-221-1.

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
