List of architectural monuments in the Wellington region

The list of monuments in the Wellington region includes all monuments and landmarks in the New Zealand region of Wellington that have been classified as “ Historic Places ” or “Historic Area” by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (NZHPT) . The information comes from the register of the NZHPT. The names of the architectural monuments are based on this register. Well-known Wahi Tapu (Area), culturally and religiously significant sites and areas of the Māori , are also included in the list. However, they are usually not published.


On July 27, 2013, 569 buildings and monuments (excluding unpublished Waihi Tapu) were identified in the region, including 143 Category 1 Historic Places, 396 Category 2 Historic Places, 23 Historic Area, four Wahi Tapu and three Wahi Tapu Area. The following list includes at least basic entries of all monuments as of May 19, 2013.

The following localities with more than five monuments have their own lists of monuments, all others are summarized in the table below.
