City council resolution of September 29, 2011
In August 2011, the CSU city council group submitted the motion that the city council should subsequently expressly welcome and confirm the administrative practice that has been practiced for decades of not including the former honorary citizens Adolf Hitler and Adolf Wagner (Gauleiter) in the honorary citizenship lists. A withdrawal of the title is not possible for formal legal reasons. The different commemorative political argument, revoking Hitler and Wagner honorary citizenship by a council resolution and against the legal concerns of the legal officer, did not find a majority during the meeting. When a unanimous decision, which all speakers supported, threatened not to come about, the CSU proposal was accepted unanimously after minor changes. The decision should be preceded by the fact that the Regensburg city council expressly distances itself from the wrong decision made in 1933 and criticizes the award of honorary citizenship to Hitler in the strongest possible terms . The city council debate was mainly limited to formal legal considerations; no further NSDAP members or mayors among the honorary citizens, such as Hans Herrmann and Walter Boll , were negotiated.
