Karl Theodor Gustav Julius Krafft (born July 4, 1804 in Dinkelsbühl ; † January 9, 1878 in Regensburg ) was a German Protestant clergyman and church councilor .

Life

Karl Theodor Krafft was born as the youngest son of the school teacher and cantor Johann Peter Krafft and his wife Regina Barbara. He grew up in the care of a choleric father who quickly punished small sins with a cane. From 1817 to 1822 he attended high school in Ansbach . His teachers there included August Bomhard and Johann Adam Schäfer . At first Krafft intended to study Classical Philology in Munich , but then decided on the University of Erlangen , where he also studied theology. In 1826 he passed the theological entrance examination with the rating “excellent near”. In 1827, at the age of 23, he became the first teacher of the royal. Theresienanstalt employed in Ansbach. In 1828 he also passed the philological examination. He mastered the languages Chaldean , Syriac , Arabic , Latin and Greek . Other languages ​​that Krafft could speak were English , French and Italian, as well as Spanish and Dutch . In 1829 Karl Theodor Krafft was given the subject of De historia veterum Aegyptiorum ex libris Vet. Test. eruenda to Dr. phil. PhD . He was friends with Anselm Feuerbach and corresponded with Ludwig Feuerbach , the orientalist Heinrich Ewald , the rabbi Abraham Geiger , with Leopold Zunz , the founder of the " Science of Judaism ", and with Hans von Raumer . In 1839 Karl Theodor Krafft took over the third pastor's post in his hometown Dinkelsbühl.

In 1846 Karl Theodor Krafft took up the position of third pastor at the Trinity Church in Regensburg and at the same time became orphanage inspector. In 1859 he became the first pastor of the Neupfarrkirche in Regensburg. He was also a teacher at the "von Müller girls' school".

Karl Theodor Krafft died on January 9, 1878 in Regensburg.

Honors

In 1877 the city of Regensburg granted him honorary citizenship.
