October 29, 1999 about 30 km long section of the old railway line between Idanha and the Cascade Range, which is also in Marion County and Linn County . 44 ° 27 '10 " N , 121 ° 53' 57" W. |
Idanha in the direction of the cascade chain via Santiam Junction | In 1872 Thomas Egenton Hogg began building a transcontinental railroad that ends on the Oregon coast. In 1894 his efforts ended in bankruptcy , and the completed tracks only extended from Yaquina Bay to Idanha in the foothills of the Cascade Range , the route east of Idanha was under construction. The historic district includes the remains of the work on the route east of Idanha and the sites of two construction workers' camps. As the construction work was abandoned during construction, these remains allow a glimpse into the methods of railway construction and the working conditions of railway construction workers in the 19th century. |
