List of stumbling blocks in Lathen

The list of stumbling blocks in Lathen contains all the stumbling blocks that were laid by Gunter Demnig in Lathen as part of the art project of the same name . They are intended to commemorate the victims of National Socialism who lived and worked in Lathen. When it was moved in March 2010, a total of 29 stumbling blocks were laid. (As of July 2019)

Moses de Vries was born on December 20, 1875 in Haren . He was married to Ida de Vries and ran a cattle trade in Lathen. He had been elected head of the synagogue for the Jewish community. On July 31, 1942 he was deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto and on September 23, 1942 to the Treblinka extermination camp . He was later pronounced dead. When the stumbling blocks were laid, Erna de Vries was present as a survivor of the Holocaust .

Ida de Vries was born as Ida Jacobs on June 18, 1873 in Lathen. She was married to Moses de Vries and had with him two sons, Ludwig and Joseph, who survived the Holocaust. On July 31, 1942, she was deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto and on September 23, 1942 to the Treblinka extermination camp. She was later pronounced dead.

Rosette de Vries was born as Rosette Jacobs on February 15, 1912 in Sögel and lived in Lathen. She was married to Joseph de Vries and had one son. With this she left Lathen and moved to Hildesheim in February 1941 . On July 10, 1942, she was deported from Bielefeld to the Auschwitz extermination camp and later declared dead.

Karl de Vries was born on October 5, 1934 as the son of Joseph and Rosette de Vries in Lathen and lived with his mother in Hildesheim from 1941. On July 10, 1942, he was deported from Bielefeld to the Auschwitz extermination camp and later declared dead. He was seven years old at the time.

Aron Schaap was born on April 14, 1886 in Lathen. He was the brother of Bendix Schaap and married to Anna Schaap. In Lathen he ran a cattle trade. On November 22, 1939, the family fled to the Netherlands . There he was imprisoned in the Westerbork assembly camp from the beginning of October 1942 and was then deported to the Auschwitz extermination camp on October 23, 1942, where he was murdered on arrival on October 26, 1942.

On October 23, 1942, she was deported from Westerbork to the Auschwitz extermination camp, where she was murdered on arrival on October 26, 1942 after being selected.

Gerda Jacobs was born on March 6, 1907 as the daughter of Henriette and Selly Wolff in Aurich and lived in Lathen. Since May 10, 1936, she was married to Louis Jacobs. In 1941 she was deported to the Riga ghetto and later murdered. She is said to have been pregnant when she was deported . In November 2012 a stumbling block was laid for them in Aurich.

Louis Jacobs was born in Lathen on February 8, 1894, to Salomon and Lina Jacobs. There he ran a cattle trade that he had taken over from his father. Since 1936 he was married to Gerda Jacobs. He was arrested during the November pogroms in 1938 and was imprisoned in Sachsenhausen concentration camp until December 17, 1938 . In 1941 he was deported to the Riga ghetto and then to the Stutthof concentration camp . He died there on November 15, 1944.

Ernst Rosenthal was born on December 27, 1889 in Oestrich . He had been married to Elly Rosenthal since 1920 and had a son Heinz with her, born in 1927. On November 20, 1933, he and his family fled to the Netherlands . In 1942 he was deported from Westerbork to the Auschwitz concentration camp , where he died on September 17, 1943.

On November 20, 1933, she fled to the Netherlands with her husband and son. In 1942 she was deported from the Westerbork assembly camp to Auschwitz , where she died on September 17, 1943. Her son Heinz, born on August 29, 1927 in Herne , also died on September 17, 1943 in Auschwitz concentration camp.

Bendix Schaap was born on May 13, 1892 as the brother of Aron Schaap in Lathen. He was married to Emilie Schaap and had four children. On November 22, 1939, the family fled to Rolde in the Netherlands, because Bendix Schaap was a Dutch citizen. From the beginning of October 1942 he was imprisoned in the Westerbork assembly camp and was deported from there on October 26, 1942 to the Auschwitz extermination camp, where he died on December 1, 1942.

After being selected on arrival, she was murdered on October 29, 1942. Her son Egon, born in 1922, died on June 21, 1939 in Lathen, was exhumed after moving to the Netherlands and buried in Rolde.
