List of birds in Kiribati
The following list contains all birds (aves) that are or have been found in Kiribati .
While there is only a limited biodiversity on the inhabited atolls of Kiribati, the marine nature reserves with the Phoenix Islands Protected Area in the Phoenix Islands and the uninhabited atolls of the Line Islands including the inhabited atoll Kiritimati offer a large area of resting and breeding areas.
The number of bird species observed is given as 77, of which 12 are globally threatened, one species of parrot has been introduced, while two species are classified as endemic : the Fanning Warbler (Bokikokiko) and the South Sea Pacific Warbler .

- Chestnut petrel (Pterodroma leucoptera)
- Bonin Shearwater (Pterodroma hypoleuca)
- Black- winged petrel (Pterodroma nigripennis)
- Stejneger petrel (Pterodroma longirostris)
- Bulwer Petrel (Bulweria bulwerii)
- Pink shearwater (Puffinus creatopus)
- Wedge-tailed Shearwater (Puffinus pacificus)
- Dark Shearwater (Puffinus griseus)
- Short-tailed shearwater (Puffinus tenuirostris)
- Christmas shearwater (Puffinus nativitatis)

The following species are known from the family of petrels:

New order in addition to the Pelecaniformes (Pelecaniformes), here are currently probably different taxonomies before.

Three species are known from the booby family:

- Red-footed Booby (Sula sula)
- White-bellied Booby (Sula leucogaster)
Frigate birds (Fregatidae)
Two species are known from the frigate bird family:
- Great Frigatebird (Fregata minor)
- Ariel frigate bird (Fregata ariel)

Herons (Ardeidae)
Only one species is known from the heron family, this is found on all atolls:
- Reef Freon (Egretta sacra)

Seven species are known from the duck family, of which the gadfly is considered to be extinct in Kiribati:
- Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) - rare / occasional
- Wigeon (Anas penelope)

- Common teal (anas crecca)
- Mallard Duck (Anas platyrhynchos)
- Pintail (anas acuta)
- Shoveler (Anas clypeata)

- Pacific golden plover (Pluvialis fulva)

- Gray- tailed sandpiper (Heterosceles brevipes) or (Tringa brevipes)
- Wandering water strider (Heterosceles incanus) or also (Tringa incanus)
- Turnstone (Arenaria interpres)
- Sanderling (Calidris alba)
- Gray-breasted sandpiper (Calidris melanotos)
- Pointed-tail sandpiper (Calidris acuminata)
- South Sea Sandpiper (Prosobonia cancellata) - endemic, breeding, endangered
- Thor's Grouse (Phalaropus fulicarius)
Skuas (Stercorariidae)
Four species are known from the sku family, with the subantaktikskua appearing to be new:
- Antarctic skua (Stercorarius maccormicki)
- Subantarctic skua (Stercorarius antarcticus)
- Spatula skua (Stercorarius pomarinus)
- Hawk sku (Stercorarius longicaudus)
Seagulls (Laridae)
Three species are known from the seagull family:
- Ring- billed gull (Larus delawarensis)
- Aztec Gull (Leucophaeus atricilla)
- Prairie Gull (Leucophaeus pipixcan) - rare / occasional
Terns (Sternidae)
Nine species of the tern family can be observed:
- Common Tern (Thalasseus bergii) (Sterna bergii)
- Black-necked tern (Sterna sumatrana)
- Little tern (Sterna albifrons)
- Spectacled Tern (Onychoprion lunatus) (Sterna lunata)
- Sooty Tern (Onychoprion fuscatus) (Sterna fuscata)
- Bald noddi (Anous minutus)
- Noddi (Anous stolidus)
- Blaunoddi (Procelsterna cerulea)
- Fairy Tern (Gygis alba)

Pigeons (Columbidae)
Four species are known from the only family of pigeon birds, that of the pigeons:
- Rock dove (Columba livia)
- Purple shoulder pigeon (Gallicolumba stairi)
- Tonga pigeon (Ducula pacifica)
- Carolina pigeon (Ducula oceanica) - unsure whether it is already extinct

Only one species is known from the family of real parrots:
- Ruby Lorikeet (Vini kuhlii) - introduced, endangered

Only one species is known from the cuckoo family:
- Long-tailed koel (Eudynamys taitensis)
Order: passerines (Passeriformes)
From the family of reed warblers (Acrocephalidae) only one type of reed warbler is known.

Of these only:
- Fanning warbler (Acrocephalus aequinoctialis) - endemic, breeding bird, critically endangered
