A chapel dedicated to St. John the Baptist was built on this site in the 17th century . Although it was enlarged around 1750 with the increasing number of inhabitants, it soon no longer met the requirements. The congregation had a new church built between 1824 and 1832 , although it was only inaugurated in 1872 .

The church in the Gschwend district was renovated inside in 1995/1996. It is a pretty house of worship in the flowery Nazarene style .
