List of the highest peaks in Bangladesh

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Keokradong has long been considered the highest mountain in Bangladesh

This page lists the highest elevations in Bangladesh .

Overview

The national territory of the South Asian state of Bangladesh consists for the most part of a flat low plain with small differences in height. Only the autonomously administered province of the Chittagong Hill Tracts in the southeast of the country in the Chittagong division , which borders the Indian state of Mizoram in the east and the Myanmar administrative unit of Chin State , are characterized by hilly to low mountainous terrain. This area administratively comprises the districts of Khagrachhari , Rangamati and Bandarban .

The long, parallel, north-south extending mountain ranges represent the foothills of the Mizo Hills in Mizoram , which in turn form a distant foothill of the Himalayas . Most of the mountains do not rise steeply above their surroundings, but rather form flat peaks overgrown with vegetation. The highest peaks are near the triangle between Bangladesh, India and Myanmar. A little more than ten peaks have heights between 900 and 1000 meters, only the Mowdok Mual is the only mountain that protrudes over 1000 meters. For a long time, the Keokradong was believed to be the highest mountain in Bangladesh with a height of supposedly 1230 meters. However, recent measurements have shown that its height is less than 1000 meters.

In order to ensure comparability of the altitude information, the altitude information from the topographic map of the ACME Mapper is generally used below. The table lists all the elevations with an elevation of 900 meters (equivalent to about 3000 feet) and more.
