List of consular representations in Dresden
After the German reunification , some consulates have resettled in Dresden . The in Saxony bordering the Czech Republic is a Consulate General represented in the Saxon capital. There is also one of the two locations of the Thai Honorary Consulate General for Bavaria and Saxony in Dresden . There are also 19 honorary consulates (as of February 2013).
By 1900 more than 30 envoys and consuls had resided in Dresden, none after the Second World War . After reunification, Denmark , Belgium and Switzerland - the latter with a consulate general dissolved at the end of 2006 - were the first states to set up a diplomatic mission in Dresden . The majority of the consuls based in Dresden are responsible for at least one other federal state in addition to Saxony - mostly Saxony-Anhalt .
Former embassies and consulates
Even before 1945, numerous foreign representations had their headquarters in Dresden. In 1902 there were embassies of the kingdoms of Bavaria , Great Britain and Prussia as well as the empires of Austria-Hungary and Russia in what was then the royal Saxon residence city . In addition, there were consulates of the United States, the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands and Turkey as well as Argentina, Bavaria, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, Greece, Great Britain, Guatemala, Italy, Colombia, Mexico, Austria Hungary, Paraguay, Persia , Peru, Portugal, Sweden and Norway , Serbia, Spain, Uruguay, Venezuela and Württemberg . In addition, Honduras had a consulate in the then still independent community of Blasewitz . After the dissolution of the monarchy in 1918, most of the diplomatic missions abroad gave up their headquarters in Dresden and settled in Berlin .
In 1943 there were consulates of Bulgaria , Costa Rica, Denmark, France, Finland, Italy, Croatia , Liberia, Paraguay, Peru, Romania, Sweden, Slovakia , Spain and Hungary in Dresden and the consulate of Venezuela in neighboring Klotzsche . Most of these consulates were destroyed in the air raids on Dresden in February 1945. As a result of the changed political situation as a result of the division of Germany after the Second World War, there were initially no more consulates in Dresden.
After the German reunification, several new consulates were created. Some of them have already been dissolved, including those in Belgium (1995–2005) and Macedonia (2008–2012). Instead of the Consulate General of Switzerland, which closed on December 31, 2006, an Honorary Consulate of the Confederation was established in 2007.
