List of Greek chess players

Vasilios Kotronias was the first Greek to be appointed grandmaster in 1990 and is the Greek record champion.

The list of Greek chess players contains chess players who are or were eligible to play for the Greek Chess Federation and who meet at least one of the following conditions:

General

In close chess, 14 grandmasters, 30 international masters (including the only woman Jelena Dembo ), five women's grandmasters and seven international women's champions are eligible to play for the Greek Chess Federation. A grandmaster and an international master are no longer eligible to play for the Greek Chess Federation, two international masters have already died.

In correspondence chess, a Greek player has the title of Grand Master, three that of an Honored International Master and three that of an International Master.

The Greek individual championship was played 65 times, the Greek championship for women 38 times. The record champion is Vasilios Kotronias with ten titles, Anna-Maria Botsari and Marina Makropoulou won the women's competition most often with eight titles each.
