Ioannis Papaioannou ( Greek Ιωάννης Παπαϊωάννου , born April 20, 1976 in Athens ) is a Greek chess player .
He won the Greek championship three times: 1997, 1998 and 1999. He played for Greece in eleven Chess Olympiads : 1998 to 2018 . He also took part in nine European team championships (2001 to 2017) and the team world championship (2010).
At the 2009 World Chess Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk , he failed in the first round to Viktor Láznička .
He played in the Greek top league since 1996, first for SA DEI Macedonia / Thrace , then from 2001 for AO Kydon Chania and from 2012 for PS Peristeriou . With Chania and Peristeriou he was the Greek team champion several times.
In 1996 he was awarded the title of International Master (IM). The title of Grand Master (GM) was awarded to him in 1998. He has been FIDE Senior Trainer since 2019 .
