Stelios Halkias ( Greek Στέλιος Χαλκιάς , born April 11, 1980 in Thessaloniki ) is a Greek chess player .
He played for Greece at nine Chess Olympiads : 2000 to 2016 . He also took part in eight European team championships (2001 to 2013 and 2017) and in the team world championship (2010).
At the 2011 Chess World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk , he failed in the first round to Alexander Morozevich . In 2015, Halkias won the Grand Masters tournament on Lev Gutman's 70th birthday. In the same year he won the Bad Wörishofen chess festival .
In Germany he played for the Sportfreunde Katernberg ( 2007/08 to 2009/10 ).
In 1998 he was awarded the title of International Master (IM). The title of Grand Master (GM) was awarded to him in 2002.
