List of paraphilias

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of paraphilias indicates sexual interests in objects, situations, or people that are atypical. In its fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders ( DSM-5 ), the American Psychiatric Association differentiates between paraphilias (which are referred to as atypical sexual interests) and paraphilic disorders , which also require the experience of suffering or dysfunction.

Forensic doctor Anil Aggrawal compiled a list of 547 terms that describe paraphilic sexual interests in his 2008 book on sexual pathologies . He points out, however, that not all of these paraphilias were necessarily seen in clinical settings. This does not have to be because they do not exist, but because they are so harmless that they have not been considered or treated. In paraphilias, Aggrawal says that sexual arousal - such as allergies - can be caused by all sorts of things under the sun, including the sun itself.

Most of the terms come from the 19th and 20th centuries and are mostly composed of Latin and Greek words. Some paraphilias have more than one term to describe them. Some terms overlap with others in terms of content.
