Büttgen | Roman Catholic community | St. Aldegundis | Pampusstrasse 4, 41564 Kaarst | 1166 (approx.) |
The first place of worship at this point is proven at the beginning of the 9th century. In the 11th century a 7 x 11 meter large hall church with a rectangular choir was built on the same site , on the outer walls of which the current Romanesque church was built around 1166 . The side aisles were added at the end of the 12th century, the tower with its four floors was built between 1125 and 1250. The first floor contains the Michael's chapel, on the next floor there is a storage room and above it is the belfry . In 1439 the Romanesque choir was replaced by a Gothic choir and the roof of the central nave was converted into a Gothic pitched roof . The church survived the Second World War without major damage, only the tower, in which a German observation post was temporarily set up, received eight artillery hits on March 1, 1945 when American troops marched in, but could be repaired by July 1945. Between 1959 and 1960, a new church was built to the west of the “old” church according to the plans of the Cologne architect E. Schiffer, as the expansion of the old parish church turned out to be inexpedient - the community now has two churches. The solemn inauguration of the “new” parish church by the Cologne Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Ferche was celebrated on September 24th and 25th, 1960.

Vorst | Roman Catholic community | St. Anthony | Antoniusplatz 13, 41564 Kaarst | 1958 | In the 14th century there was evidence of a small hermitage , to which a chapel was added later. From 1779 onwards it was looked after by the parish of St. Aldegundis , and on some Sundays and on certain festivals a vicar read holy mass there. In 1923 the congregation became independent and the foundation stone for the current church building could not be laid until January 20th, 1957. On July 5th and 6th, 1958, the new church (a hall church with a free-standing turn according to the plans of the Neuss architect Gilges) was solemnly consecrated by the auxiliary bishop Joseph Ferche . The chapel is still preserved.

Vorst | Roman Catholic community | Anthony's Chapel | At the chapel 5, 41564 Kaarst | 1401/1740/1967 to 1968 | Like the parish of St. Antonius , the Antonius chapel goes back to a hermitage in the Büttger Forest, it was first mentioned in 1401. The hermitage burned down in 1740, but was rebuilt in a different location. It consisted of a small church room, a school room and the apartment of the hermits. After the Hermitage was dissolved in the 19th century, the chapel was the center of the chapel community, from 1923 to 1958 it was the parish church. In the years 1967 to 1968 the chapel was rebuilt in its original condition (around the middle of the 18th century), in 1994 the interior was redesigned (architect Denecke, Neuss and sculptor Matthias Heiermann, Cologne).

Kaarst | Roman Catholic community | Old St. Martin | Kirchstrasse 5, 41564 Kaarst | 13th Century | This church was first documented in the 13th century, but it probably goes back to the time of Charlemagne . In the 11th century the building had the shape of a Romanesque three-aisled basilica in small format. Due to the strong influx (especially from the Düsseldorf area) it became too small for the congregation, the congregation moved into the new St. Martinus church on Rathausstrasse on Palm Sunday . In 1960 it was decided to free the old church from later extensions and to restore it to its original state from the 11th century. Work began in 1963, and in 1968 the church was able to return to the life of worship (weekly masses, weddings, baptisms, etc.).

Holzbüttgen | Roman Catholic community | Seven Sorrows of Mary | Am Pfarrzentrum 12, 41564 Kaarst | 1933/1947/1971 | In 1899 a chapel building association was founded with the aim of building a Catholic church in Holzbüttgen . It was not until 1933 that the emergency church St. Barbara from Neuss (a wooden barrack) could be bought (partly through a donation of land by the Höveler siblings), the church was consecrated on November 5th, 1933. Since the building has been badly damaged in the meantime, the church council decided in June 1945 to build a new church. The foundation stone was laid on June 8th, 1947, and the new church was consecrated about one year later. Due to the rapid population growth and structural damage, a new church had to be built (again), and the foundation stone was laid on May 23, 1971. The benedication took place on May 20th, 1972 , the consecration by the auxiliary bishop Wilhelm Cleven was carried out on June 22nd, 1974. Since 1990 the church has had an octagonal bell tower with five bells of different sizes.
