Livingston is the county capital and seat of the county seat of Polk County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

The city is located at the intersection of US Highways 190 and 59 with Highway 146 and Farm Road 1316 in east Texas, 26 km northeast of San Jacinto , 115 km north-northeast of Houston and has a total area of 21.7 km 2 with no significant Water surface.

According to the 2000 census, 5,433 people lived here in 2,048 households and 1,341 families. The population density was 250.9 inhabitants per km 2 . The racial the population was composed of 70.38% White, 18.50% African American, 0.64% Native American, 0.83% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 8.08% other ethnic groups. About 1.56% were mixed race and 13.90% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,048 households, 34.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 45.4% of them were married couples living together. 16.4% were single mothers and 34.5% were non-families. 30.9% of all households were single households and there were people living in 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.13.
