Mark Lockhaert

Mark Lockheart (* 31 March 1961 in Lymington ) is a British jazz - clarinetist , saxophonist and pianist.

Live and act

Lockheart was introduced to jazz through his father, who played as an amateur alto saxophone in jazz bands. Between 1979 and 1983 he studied classical saxophone at Trinity College of Music in London. In the 1980s he played with Roger Deans Lysis and became a member of the big band formation Loose Tubes ; then he played with Billy Jenkins and Django Bates ( Summer Fruits (and Unrest) ). From 1987 to 1991 he had a trio with Steve Berry and Peter Fairclough . In 1992 he founded the formation Perfect Houseplants with Huw Warren , Dudley Phillips and Martin France . In 1994 he played in Gail Thompson's big band ; In 1995 he was part of the bassist Geoff Gascoyne's band ( Voices of Spring ) and appeared in Graham Collier's Big Band at the London Jazz Festival ( Charles River Fragments ). In 1997 he played with Huw Warren, 1998 with Roger Beaujolais and 1999 with John Parricelli . From the 2000s he was a member of the Polar Bear formation ( Held on the Tips of Fingers , 2005). In 2005 Lockheart recorded Moving Air, the first album under their own name.

Lockheart also worked as a composer for television projects for the BBC and for Michael Gibbs , continued to work with bands such as Radiohead , Prefab Sprout and Stereolab ; he teaches at Trinity College of Music in London and at Middlesex University .
