The Lok Sabha constituency of Chennai North (until 2004 Madras North ) is a constituency in the elections for Lok Sabha , the lower house of the Indian parliament. It is located in the state of Tamil Nadu and comprises the northern part of the metropolis of Chennai (Madras).

Constituency history

The Madras North constituency from 1971 to 2004

The constituency of Madras North was created for the Lok Sabha election in 1957 when the former constituency of Madras was divided into the constituencies of Madras North and Madras South . For the Lok Sabha election in 1977, the new Madras Central was created from parts of the constituencies of Madras North and Madras South . In the course of the reorganization of the constituencies in the run-up to the Lok Sabha election in 2009, the layout of the constituency of Madras North was changed. At the same time it was renamed Chennai North .
