The Lok Sabha constituency of Sriperumbudur is a constituency in the elections for Lok Sabha , the lower house of the Indian parliament. It is located in the state of Tamil Nadu and covers an area around the city of Sriperumbudur in the Kanchipuram district in the suburbs of the metropolis of Chennai .

Constituency history

The constituency of Sriperumbudur from 1971 to 2004

The constituency of Sriperumbudur has existed since the Lok Sabha election in 1962. From 1967 the constituency was reserved for candidates from the lower castes ( Scheduled Castes ). In the course of the reorganization of the constituencies in the run-up to the Lok Sabha election in 2009, the reservation was canceled and the layout of the constituency changed. The new constituency of Tiruvallur was formed from the northern part of the former constituency of Sriperumbudur . A smaller part of the area also went to the Arakkonam constituency . At the same time, areas from the constituency of Chennai South were added to the constituency of Sriperumbudur .
