Constituency history
The constituency of Sriperumbudur has existed since the Lok Sabha election in 1962. From 1967 the constituency was reserved for candidates from the lower castes ( Scheduled Castes ). In the course of the reorganization of the constituencies in the run-up to the Lok Sabha election in 2009, the reservation was canceled and the layout of the constituency changed. The new constituency of Tiruvallur was formed from the northern part of the former constituency of Sriperumbudur . A smaller part of the area also went to the Arakkonam constituency . At the same time, areas from the constituency of Chennai South were added to the constituency of Sriperumbudur .
