Lola im Technoland (original title: Clubbed to Death (Lola) ) is a French feature film from 1996. The title refers to the piece of music "Clubbed to Death" by Rob Dougan , which is also the theme melody of the film.
action
In Paris , Lola is riding a bus with her friend. After her friend got out, Lola falls asleep and only wakes up at the end of the line.
There is no return trip until the next morning, so she is forced to stay at the terminus. In the Paris suburbs she finally discovers a nightclub that she visits. That's how she gets to know the underworld with its techno raves, sex and drugs. She falls in love with the former boxer Emir. The next morning Lola returns home. But the fascination for music, Emir and Saida, doesn't let go of them.
Emir is a drug addict and lives with Saida and his brother Ismael in a run-down apartment block. After Lola learns of his addiction, she turns away from Emir. Emir takes this as an opportunity to fight against his drug addiction and for his love for Lola. In order to pay off his debts, Emir is supposed to box his brother again.
criticism
“A film that is as suggestive as it is clairvoyant and rejects traditional narrative patterns. He illuminates many facets of the club scene with unvarnished pictures and articulates a confidence that is difficult to justify in the midst of all the sadness and escape from the world. "
