Look Up Child received mostly positive reviews. Allmusic's Marcy Donelson gave the album four stars out of five. She praised the arrangements, production and vocal qualities of Lauren Daigle, which she compared to the British singer Adele . Tony Cummings from Cross Rhythms gave it the highest rating with ten points, describing Look Up Child as an outstanding album with the potential to become a classic and to influence the Christian music scene. Jesus Freak Hideout's Alex Caldwell rated the album four out of five stars, named it one of the best works of the year, and praised the music and songwriting, as well as the handling of the theme of hope, which the reviewer said is the album's main theme.
Awards
Look Up Child was awarded a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album , the song You Say received the award in the category Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance / Song . In addition, the single and the album each received a Dove Award in the categories Song of the Year and Pop / Contemporary Album of the Year .

The album debuted in third place on the Billboard 200 , making it the first Lauren Daigle album to reach the top ten. In the first week, 13 tracks from the album were placed in the Billboard Hot Christian Songs. With the album and the single You Say , Daigle was also number one on the Christian album and single charts. With 115,000 units sold in the first week, it was one of the most successful sales starts of a Christian album by a female artist, only You Light Up My Life by LeAnn Rimes was more successful in 1997. Look Up Child was the most successful Christian music album of 2018 and 2019. The album was also able to achieve several international chart positions, including number 28 in Switzerland and number 38 in Australia .

The lead single You Say was by far the greatest success from the album and is one of the most successful Christian singles. On the Billboard Hot 100 , it reached the highest position at number 29 and the song was in the charts for 43 weeks. The single received triple platinum in the US and double platinum in Canada. You Say was also successful outside of North America and placed in the top ten of the Belgian charts as well as in France , the Netherlands and Switzerland. The other singles Look Up Child , Rescue and Still Rolling Stones placed in the top ten of the Hot Christian Songs, with the first two each receiving a gold award in the USA. A total of 13 songs from the album were placed in these charts. In October 2019 broke You Say the record of Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) by Hillsong United as a song with the most weeks at the top of the Hot Christian Songs.
