Amir Junaid Muhadith (born June 20, 1975 in Harlem , New York , NY as Chauncey Lamont Hawkins ) known by his stage name Loon, is a former American rapper and contemporary R&B singer.

Career

He drew attention from his frequent collaborations with Fr. Diddy . The title I Need a Girl (Part One) by P. Diddy, published in mid-2002, was a great success with the support of Loon and Usher . He also worked on Toni Braxton's song Hit the Freeway .

In 2004 Loon P. left Diddy's record label Bad Boy Records and started his own label, Boss Up Entertainment .

Life

Loon converted to Islam in 2008 , has called himself Amir Junaid Muhadith since then and withdrew from the public eye.

After Loon had already had two convictions (1993 at the age of 18 and 2006) for capital crimes , he was sentenced to another 14 years in prison on July 18, 2013. He was convicted of trafficking in one or more kilograms of heroin in the state of North Carolina . To avoid a possible life imprisonment ( three strikes ), Junaid declined a lawsuit and accepted the sentence. One way to get the sentence suspended would normally have been at least eight and a half years in prison. Loon was released early in late July 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States , after producer Weldon Angelos, among others, stood up for him.
