Lore Friedrich-Gronau (birth name Leonore Berta Klara Gronau ; * 1905 in Görlitz , Lower Silesia , † 2002 in the Münsterschwarzach Abbey , Schwarzach am Main , Kitzingen district ) was a German sculptor and illustrator .

Life

Lore Gronau's parents were Martha Margarete Gronau and Walter Friedrich Eduard Gronau, who worked as a royal senior teacher at the mechanical engineering school in Görlitz and later in Aachen. At the age of ten she was already exhibiting works of art and creating congratulatory and artist cards.

From 1928-1934 Friedrich-Gronau studied at the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin and was a master student at fritz klimsch (1870-1960). From 1920 to 1945 she lived and worked in Berlin. However, in 1943 she lost her studio in a bomb attack. From 1939 to 1961 she worked as a freelancer for Rosenthal AG and created "porcelain figures based on living models". It emerged statuettes like the famous actress Lilian Harvey as " Fanny Elssler " (1937 - 32,5 cm) and by the dancers Hedi Höpfner and Margot Höpfner in "Kaiserwalzer" (1938), by Ursula Deinert as " Kasatschok -Tänzerin" (1939 - 30.5 cm) and by Daisy Spies in the dance "Adagio"; also the "Frog Queen", "Snow White" and "The Blue Flower". After the loss of her studio in Berlin she lived from 1945 to 1972 in Bad Kissingen , later in the Benedictine - Münsterschwarzach Abbey , where she also had her studio. From modeling mother-child figures, she now came to sculptures of the Mother of God and statues of Mary (motif: “Mary with the divine child” ). While she used to work mainly in porcelain , her later materials were ceramic , cast stone , terracotta and bronze . She sold her works to Africa, America and many European countries.

According to her own statement, the artist found her way from Protestantism to Catholicism through her artistic occupation with statues of the Virgin Mary and through her life in the Benedictine monastery . In 1930 she married the pilot and aviation entrepreneur Alfred Friedrich , who died in 1968.
