Lorenz Schönberger

Lorenz Adolf Schönberger (born March 4, 1768 in Vöslau ; † August 10, 1846 or 1847 in Mainz ) was an Austrian landscape painter and etcher.

Life

Schönberger was the son of a cook employed by Baron Johann von Fries . He was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1782 and 1788 to 1789 . Michael Wutky was one of his teachers . After completing his training, he spent his life traveling extensively in Central Europe. He was in Paris in 1804 and took part in the annual exhibition there, and in Frankfurt am Main in 1810 . In the years 1806 to 1825 he traveled to southern Germany, from 1817 to 1825 with stays in Italy (especially Rome). In 1826 he visited Belgium and the Netherlands and became a member of the Koninklijke Akademie van Beeldende Künsten in Amsterdam. He stayed in Vienna again in 1830 and exhibited works in St. Anna. He then traveled to England and was in Rome in 1840. However, he kept returning to Vienna as his hometown.

Schönberger was married twice:

  • with the singer Marianna (nee Marconi, 1785-1882), the marriage was divorced.
  • with Freiin Hundbiß von Waltrams from a Swabian noble family.
