Lorenzo Rustici

Lorenzo Rustici (also mentioned as Lorenzo Brazzi , called Il Rustico , * 1521 in Siena , † 1572 ibid) was an Italian painter and plasterer who was mainly active in Siena.

Life

His father was Cristoforo di Lorenzo Brazzi († November 16, 1545 in Siena); he moved as an architect from Piacenza to Siena. Lorenzo Rustici was the father of Cristoforo Rustici , Vincenzo Rustici , and the father-in-law of Alessandro Casolani , who married his daughter Aurelia Rustici. From this marriage come his nephews, Cristoforo Casolani and Ilario Casolani . He probably received his training from Giovanni Antonio Bazzi ( called Sodoma ). His first trip to Rome is documented in 1558, then he stayed there from 1560 to 1562 to work at the Accademia di San Luca .

On October 10, 1570 he was mentioned in a document as a colleague of Bartolomeo Neroni (Il Riccio). He died around June 10, 1572 in Siena and was buried in the Basilica di San Domenico under the altar of San Pietro Martire.
