Lothar Kempter (born May 1, 1900 in Zurich ; † February 12, 2001 in Winterthur ; resident in Zurich) was a Swiss writer and German scholar .

Life

Family and education

The Evangelical baptized, originally from Zurich Lothar Kempter was the son of music theory teacher , conductor and composer Friedrich Alexander Lothar Kempter (1873-1948). In 1919 he obtained the federal high school diploma at the Zurichberg literary school of the Rämibühl canton school . He then turned to the study of German language and literature, history , art history and Latin Philology at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin and the University of Zurich to, there took place in 1923 his doctorate to Dr. phil. Lothar Kempter was married to Maria, the sister of the writer Konrad Bänninger (1890–1981). Kempter died in February 2001 at the age of 100 in Winterthur.

Professional background

After his first professional assignments after graduating, Lothar Kempter took up a position as a German teacher at the Kantonsschule Im Lee in Winterthur in 1929 , which he held until he retired in 1966. In 1965 he got a job as a research assistant at the Swiss Institute for Art Research in Zurich, from which he left in 1975.

Lothar Kempter, who emerged as a writer and made contributions to German literature, music and art history, was awarded the City of Winterthur Culture Prize in 1959 , an honorary gift from the Canton of Zurich in 1972, honorary membership of the Hölderlin Society in 1974 and also in 1974 with the Carl-Heinrich -Ernst Art Prize.
