Lothar Matuschak (born June 10, 1948 ) is a former German soccer player . The goalkeeper , who started with Westfalia Herne in the 2nd Bundesliga , has been working as a goalkeeper coach since he retired .

career

Matuschak played for Westfalia Herne, from the club's rise in 1975 in the 2nd Bundesliga. He fought a duel with Hans-Jürgen Bradler for the regular place between the posts, in which the protagonists took turns in the individual seasons. Until the breakdown of the main sponsor Goldin for financial reasons in 1979, he played 82 second division games for the club.

In 1995 Matuschak signed on as a goalkeeping coach at FC Schalke 04 . Mainly working in the youth department of the club, he promoted various talents in the following years. Among the players who made their breakthrough in professional football are the future national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer , with Christian Wetklo , Mohamed Amsif , Christofer Heimeroth , Ralf Fährmann , Lars Unnerstall and Patrick Rakovsky, other goalkeepers from various German youth national teams as well as Robert Wulnikowski , Manuel Lenz , Volkan Ünlü and Lukas Raeder . His former protégé Toni Tapalović , who did not get beyond the amateur field as a player, succeeded Frans Hoek and Walter Junghans as goalkeeper coach at Bayern Munich in 2011 .
