The Emden Lotsenbrüderschaft is under the supervision of the Waterways and Shipping Office and is represented by its chairman, the so-called senior man in the Federal Chamber of Pilots .

Members

The Emden Lotsenbrüderschaft has 36 freelance members who are authorized to join the Federal Association of Sea and Harbor Pilots (BSHL) as individuals . In addition to sea pilots, the pilot brotherhood also organizes port pilots who perform their duties in the ports of Emden, Leer and Papenburg.

Pilot transfer system

SWATH tender Borkum

The pilots of the Emden Lotsen Brotherhood are deployed from two pilot stations: one on Borkum and one in Emden . The transfer system, i.e. bringing the pilots on board and picking them up, is guaranteed by a total of five transfer boats that are used and managed by the Lotsbetriebsverein eV . Up until 2012, the Lotsbetriebsverein used the pilot station ship Kapitän Bleeker , which served as a floating pilot station on the Westerems , 17 nautical miles northwest of Borkum. From here, the pilots were brought by dinghy to the ships on which they were supposed to work. The Kapitän Bleeker was ceremonially decommissioned on September 21, 2012 after 40 years of service. In the course of the change in the pilot transfer system on the Ems, a pilot station was set up on Borkum in a former Bundeswehr building that year. Since then, the two transfer boats Frya and Fresena, built in France, have ensured the transfer of the pilots from here. The SWATH tender Borkum , which was formerly used by the German Navy, is also stationed here. The pilot station in Emden is located at the outer harbor of the Emden harbor . From here a pilot boat is in use and one in reserve.

Pilot area

Pilots refer to the sea area or the sailing areas in which they perform their tasks as a district . The piloting area of the Emden Lotsenbrüderschaft includes the sea area near Borkum and Juist off the Lower Saxony coast as well as the Ems, the Emden harbor and Papenburg. The transfer of the ships built at the Papenburg Meyer Werft is also part of their area of responsibility.
