Lotte Stein (born January 12, 1894 in Berlin , † September 20, 1982 in Munich ) was a German actress .

Life

The niece of Hermann Vallentin and Rosa Valetti made her debut in Schaffhausen in 1911 . In 1912 she got an engagement at the Schauspielhaus Frankfurt . In 1916 she came to the Deutsches Theater under Max Reinhardt , where she appeared regularly since January 1919. In the twenties she could also be seen at various other Berlin theaters, most recently in 1933 at the Volksbühne . In addition, she took on numerous supporting roles in the film. In the British-German production Mary , she played the part of Bebe Brown.

After the seizure of power by the Nazis in 1933, the Jewish emigrated to Austria and 1934 to Prague, where she on until 1937 Deutsches Theater worked. In 1939 she arrived in the United States and played theater in New York. She also appeared in some American films.

In 1949 Lotte Stein returned to Germany and was taken over by the Münchner Kammerspiele . Since 1954 she has been part of the ensemble of the Schillertheater and the Schloßparktheater in Berlin, where she has participated in numerous performances of classics such as Nathan the Wise and Three Sisters . She was also cast in a few supporting roles in German film in the 1950s.

She was buried in the north cemetery in Munich .
