Louis Forbes

Louis Forbes , born Louis Forbstein (* 12. August 1902 in St. Louis , Missouri ; † 17th June 1981 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American conductor , songwriter and composer of film music , the five times for the Academy Award for the best film music was nominated.

Life

Forbes, younger brother of the conductor and Oscar winner Leo F. Forbstein , studied music with Edward Kilenyi and Max Steiner and then worked for David O. Selznick for seven years . After three years as the musical director of Samuel Goldwyn Productions , he joined RKO Pictures .

At the Academy Awards in 1940 he was nominated for the Oscar for the best film music for the first time, namely for Intermezzo (1939). Further nominations in this category followed in 1945 with Ray Heindorf for the musical film Up in Arms (1944), in 1946 with R. Heindorf for Der Wundermann ( Wonder Man , 1945) and for Help, I'm a Millionaire ( Brewster's Millions , 1945) ) and finally at the 1954 Academy Awards for This Is Cinerama (This Is Cinerama, 1952).

In addition, he was involved in the musical accompaniment of films such as Gone with the Wind (1939), An ideales Paar (1939), Rebecca (1940), As you said goodbye (1944) and Queen of the Mountains (1954) and worked throughout his career with film directors such as Gregory Ratoff , Elliott Nugent , H. In 1951 he became a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and wrote well-known songs such as “Passion Tango”, “The Bat”, “Hong Kong Affair”, “What Would I Do Without You?”, “What's the Use of Crying? ”,“ Heart of Gold ”,“ From the Earth to the Moon ”and“ Appointment in Honduras ”.
