Louise Jaide , also Luise Jaide and Louise Jaide-Schlosser, ( March 26, 1842 in Darmstadt - January 2, 1914 there ) was a German opera singer with the mezzo-soprano and alto voices . In the early stages of her career, she performed under the stage name Louise Orth .

At the first Bayreuth Festival in 1876, she played Erda and Waltraute in Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen .

life and work

Louise Jaide studied at the Stuttgart Music School and made her debut in 1859 as Pierotto in Linda di Chamounix at the Darmstadt Court Theater . She continued her training and received her first permanent engagement for a season at the Royal Court Theater of Hanover in 1861 . After that she was committed to the Regensburg Theater for three seasons . In Darmstadt, Hanover and Regensburg she performed under the name Louise Orth , but when she returned to Darmstadt in 1865, the name Louise Jaide was on the cast slips . She was committed to the opera house of her hometown for twelve years and during these years she was able to gain the approval of the audience. She had a broad repertoire, sang in German as well as in Italian and French. She was finally appointed to the Hessian Chamber Singer .

During her time in Darmstadt she developed a rich guest performance, which took her to the opera houses of Stuttgart (1873), Wiesbaden (1874) and Frankfurt (1875) and to the Vienna Court Opera in 1874 and 1877 . In 1872 Richard Wagner heard the singer in Darmstadt and was impressed by her singing and acting skills. This was followed by the invitation to take part in the first Bayreuth Festival in 1876. It was the first complete performance of the cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen . She took over Erda in Rheingold and in the world premiere of Siegfried as well as Waltraute in Die Walküre and in the world premiere of Götterdämmerung . Presumably due to an illness of Louise Jaide, Marianne Brandt sang the role of Waltraute in the second Götterdämmerung performance .

From 1878 Louise Jaide was engaged for one season at the Bremen City Theater , ten years at the German Opera Theater in Rotterdam and one season at the Flemish Opera in Ghent. In 1892 she ended her stage career and then worked as a singing teacher in Darmstadt.
