Lu (also called Lu Monferrato ) is a fraction of the municipality of Lu e Cuccaro Monferrato in the Italian province of Alessandria (AL), Piedmont region . The place is 19 km away from the provincial capital Alessandria at an altitude of 307 m above sea level. The patron saint of the place is San Valerio.

The municipality of Lu was merged with Cuccaro Monferrato on February 1, 2019 to form the new municipality of Lu e Cuccaro Monferrato. It last had 1103 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2017) on an area of ​​21.74 km². The districts of Bodelacchi, Borghina, Castagna, Martini and Trisogli belonged to the municipality of Lu.

The neighboring municipalities were Camagna Monferrato , Conzano , Cuccaro Monferrato , Mirabello Monferrato , Occimiano , Quargnento and San Salvatore Monferrato .

Trivia

Together with four other parishes, Lu was one of the Italian parishes with the shortest two-letter names. The other municipalities are Ne in the Liguria region , Re in the Piedmont region , Ro in the Emilia-Romagna region and Vo in the Veneto region .

Culinary specialties

At Lu, vines of the Barbera variety are grown for the Barbera d'Asti , a red wine with DOCG status, as well as for the Barbera del Monferrato .
