Ludwig Hornung (* 1986 in Bad Dürkheim ) is a German jazz musician ( piano , Fender Rhodes , composition ).

Live and act

Hornung, who comes from Neustadt an der Weinstrasse and lives in Berlin, received classical piano training from the age of six; he also had drum lessons. He received awards in the context of Jugend musiziert and Jugend jazz . As a teenager, he initially dealt with styles such as trip-hop , hip-hop , breakbeat and remix projects, etc. a. with the electro duo Third I Vision ; He also worked with the vaudeville group Kabarettit on a political satirical program. Hornung studied piano at the Jazz Institute in Berlin with Ludwig Nuss , where he also earned his bachelor's degree with distinction.

With Wanja Slavin and John Schröder he formed the trio Triebwerk Hornung , with whom he recorded an album of the same name for Unit Records in 2015 . In the same year he recorded his debut album Spieler with his trio, consisting of Phil Donkin (bass) and Bernd Oezsevim (drums) , which was released in 2017 on ( Double Moon Records ). According to Stern , his music (in addition to six original compositions, a cover version of Thelonious Monk's "Ugly Beauty") is "characterized by a great joy in playing and a desire for virtuosity". Currently (2018/19) he also plays solo and in the Tobias Meinhart Quartet.
