Ludwig von Buhl (born January 4, 1816 in Munich , † July 30, 1880 in Ebenhausen near Munich ) was a German doctor and university professor.

Life

Von Buhl studied medicine in Munich and Vienna, received his doctorate in 1839 and qualified as a lecturer in physical diagnostics , pathological anatomy and microscopy in 1846 . Together with Carl Thiersch , he introduced pathological-anatomical demonstrations; at the same time he gave percussion courses for students.

In 1859 he became a full professor of general pathology and pathological anatomy at the University of Munich , in 1875 also director of the pathological institute. From 1862 he was an extraordinary member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

Buhl researched and published on cholera , described acute miliary tuberculosis as a resorption and infectious disease, provided work on the water content of the brain in typhus , on capillary ectasia of the lungs, on fibrous exudate , and on the etiology of typhoid, and discovered the constant occurrence of a fungus Diphtheria . In his first article in the "Zeitschrift für Biologie", founded with Max Pettenkofer and Carl Voit , in the treatise "On the Etiology of Typhus", he pointed to the relationship between the time when typhus appeared and the groundwater level in Munich.
