Ludwig von Eyb the Elder (* 1417 in Sommersdorf near Ansbach , Bavaria , † January 29, 1502 ) was a German knight, politician and judge of the Middle Ages. He came from the Frankish noble family of the Eyb family .

Life

Ludwig von Eyb the Elder, brother of the writer Albrecht von Eyb , was married to Magdalena Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden . The lawyer Anselm von Eyb , the court master and military leader Ludwig von Eyb the Younger and the prince-bishop of Eichstätt Gabriel von Eyb , Kaspar von Eyb and the two sisters Barbara and Mathilde emerged from the marriage.

From 1440 he worked as an adviser to the Zollerischen Burgrave of Nuremberg and Margrave Frederick I of Brandenburg and later from his son Albrecht Achilles . Von Eyb was later court master to Albrecht's wife Margarete von Baden , field captain in the war with Nuremberg in 1449/50 and as an envoy in numerous important diplomatic missions for Margrave and Elector Albrecht of Brandenburg and their sons Friedrich and Siegmund . Most recently he was district judge at the Imperial District Court of the Burgraviate of Nuremberg and Knight of the Swan Order . For many years he was the caretaker of the Arberg district of Eichstätt.

Ludwig von Eyb the Elder Ä. took part in the pilgrimage of Albrecht von Brandenburg to the Holy Land in 1476 and received the accolade. His sons Anselm von Eyb and his brother Ludwig von Eyb the Younger were both knighted at the Holy Tomb in Jerusalem.

He found his final resting place in the monastery church Heilsbronn , where he donated an altar in 1487 with an altar painting of the family.
