Ludwig von Hofmann-Zeitz
Ludwig von Hofmann-Zeitz (born November 11, 1832 in Zeitz as Ludwig Hofmann; † September 28, 1895 in Heidelberg ) was a German painter . He added Zeitz , the town of birth, to his last name .
Ludwig Hofmann began his drawing lessons with Gustav Jäger at the Leipzig Academy in 1847 . In 1862 he came to Munich and became a pupil in the "Componir School" with Moritz von Schwind .
He was mainly concerned with genre painting , but was also active as a book illustrator, among other things he created eight sheets for Goethe's Hermann and Dorothea (Bruckmann Verlag Munich). On behalf of King Ludwig II , he designed a ceiling painting for Linderhof Palace . He was raised to the nobility by the Wittelsbachers . In 1865 he created the picture “Auf Hohe Alpe”, several copies of which have been passed down (one in the Darmstadt Museum).
In 1887 Ludwig von Hofmann-Zeitz came to Darmstadt , where he became inspector of the Grand Ducal Gallery .
